Certification FSC Chain of Custody for Wood Pellets
Certification FSC COC for Wood Pellets

All materials used for our wood pellets come from FSC–certified forests.

All our chain of custody is regularly audited, along with our forests, to meet the criteria for FSC certification. We have FSC Certificate and PEFC Certificate and we are finalizing SBP certification.

FSC Certification and Wood Pellets

Our wood source is certified FSC

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a global leader in forest certification, recognized for promoting responsible forest management that focuses on conservation, restoration, and science-based approaches. FSC establishes rigorous certification standards for forest managers and businesses that use forest resources, ensuring sustainable practices. Products labeled with FSC certification guarantee that the materials come from responsibly managed forests, often resulting in higher prices and quality compared to uncertified alternatives.

In the wood pellet market, increasing demand from countries like Japan and South Korea has led to concerns about the impact on forests where raw materials are sourced. As the carbon-neutral benefits of wood pellets and biomass energy depend on the sustainable management of forests, many importers have introduced stricter quality controls, with FSC certification playing a key role. To meet the requirements of markets such as Japan and South Korea, wood pellet producers are now expected to obtain FSC certification.

We hold FSC certifications to ensure that our wood comes from controlled sources. There are two major types of FSC certifications for wood pellets: Forest Management (FM) and Chain of Custody (CoC).

- FM certification ensures that forests are managed in line with FSC standards.

- CoC certification tracks FSC-certified materials throughout the supply chain to guarantee that final products are made according to FSC guidelines.

Details of FSC certification types:

Forest Management (FM):

FSC forest management certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.

To obtain FM certification, forest operations must comply with ten principles that cover areas such as conservation, community relations, and workers’ rights. These principles are:

1. Compliance with Laws: Adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and treaties.

2. Workers’ Rights and Employment Conditions: Ensuring the social and economic well-being of workers.

3. Indigenous Peoples’ Rights: Respecting the legal and customary rights of Indigenous Peoples over land and resources.

4. Community Relations: Supporting the social and economic welfare of local communities.

5. Forest Benefits: Managing forest products and services to ensure long-term economic viability and environmental and social benefits.

6. Environmental Impacts: Conserving and restoring ecosystems, while mitigating environmental harm.

7. Management Planning: Having a clear management plan that aligns with the scale and risks of operations.

8. Monitoring and Assessment: Continuously evaluating progress and impacts to enable adaptive management.

9. High Conservation Values: Protecting and enhancing areas of high conservation value.

10. Implementation of Management Activities: Ensuring that management activities are aligned with FSC’s economic, environmental, and social goals.

Chain of Custody (CoC):

FSC Chain-of-Custody certification traces the path of products from forests through the supply chain

CoC certification assures that FSC-certified materials are tracked through every stage of production, giving consumers confidence that their purchases meet FSC standards. Many wood pellet companies exporting to Japan and South Korea are required to be fully CoC certified.

PEFC Certification and Wood Pellets

We hold PEFC certificate (100% PEFC Certified, X% PEFC Certified, PEFC Controlled Sources)

Over time, the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) has adapted to regulate tropical forest management, while the FSC has established a collective accreditation procedure.

According to PEFC, forests are at the heart of sustainable development. It focuses on preserving biodiversity, soil and water, as well as the health and regeneration of trees. It also benefits society through its wood resources, its ability to capture CO2, and for walkers.

The aim of the PEFC label is to set standards for sustainable forest management, monitor their application, carry out independent inspections and verifications, and ensure that these requirements are met.

PEFC standards are rigorous and cover sustainable management of forests, forest resources and biodiversity, as well as the quality of forestry work. The aim is to ensure the viability and renewal of forests through natural regeneration or planting, to protect the trees of tomorrow and to diversify species. Sustainability requires not only maintaining biodiversity, but also respecting animals, plants, their habitats and reproductive cycles. This can be achieved by conserving dead or old trees, banning genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and protecting forest ponds and wetlands.

The PEFC seal assures consumers that the forest owner and forest manager have adopted PEFC sustainable management practices, and that wood processing and distribution companies have complied with the organization's traceability rules.

The PEFC certification system is based on two pillars: certification of the forests and certification of the companies that handle the wood. In this way, the FSC and PEFC labels ensure continuous monitoring throughout the supply chain, from harvest to sale.
